Nerve Blocks

Nerve blocks are injections delivered near or around nerves to temporarily control pain. Nerve blocks can be used as a diagnostic tool, to relieve pain in single treatment or multiple injections over a period of time. We use them to treat pain in the abdomen, groin, chest, hand or foot. Usual cause of pain is post surgical pain or post infection pain caused by shingles. For chronic headaches, caused by inflammation of the occipital nerves, we offer injections that can provide long term relief or significant improvement in intensity of pain. Peripheral nerve blocks historically have been done using blind techniques based on anatomical landmarks. With the development of ultrasound, utilized in our office, the success rate of the procedures increased from thirty eight to ninety eight percent.
